Tracy Nadolny-Burton Wins DAISY Award

Winchester Hospital has recognized Tracy Nadolny-Burton, RN from Wakefield as its most recent recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Nadolny-Burton was nominated by a colleague because she always arrives “with a smile on her face, always happy to help.” The DAISY Award, presented in collaboration with the American Organization of Nurse Executives, is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the exceptional efforts that nurses make each day. DAISY - Roderick-Burton

In the nomination form, her colleague wrote that when Nadolny-Burton had to assist a familiar oncology patient, she noticed the patient was having trouble breathing. She convinced the patient to get checked out in the Emergency Department. When the patient was hesitant because they were scared, Nadolny-Burton stayed with the patient the entire time in the Emergency Department, comforting them.

“She deserves the DAISY Award for her daily compassion but especially today for the sensitivity and compassion she gave that familiar oncology patient,” her colleague wrote.

Winchester Hospital has joined hundreds of medical facilities across the country in honoring extraordinary nurses with a DAISY Award each month. Based in Glen Ellen, Calif., the nonprofit DAISY Foundation was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at age 33 from complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) in 1999. The DAISY Award, which stands for “Diseases Attacking the Immune System,” was established by Barnes’ wife and parents as a gesture of thanks to nurses nationwide for the profound difference they make in the lives of patients and their families.

In recognition of her selection, Nadolny-Burton received a DAISY Award pin, a hand-carved sculpture called “A Healer’s Touch” and a certificate that reads, “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.”
