Winchester Hospital Celebrates Shields Partnership

Winchester Hospital and Shields Health Care Group Celebrate Five Years of Success

Winchester Hospital recently celebrated its five-year partnership with Shields Health Care Group.

The partnership between the two organizations has been very successful. Shields, a leader in diagnostic imaging and radiation therapy for the last 25 years, brings the most advanced radiation oncology to the hospital’s Dr. Richard Heidbreder Center for Radiation Oncology, located at 620 Washington St. in Winchester.

The specialized treatment offered by Shields delivers state-of-the-art radiation treatment to patients. The center features four-dimensional CT simulation, image-guided radiation technology, respiratory gating and electronic brachytherapy – all highly advanced forms of cancer treatment offered in very few centers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. These technologies, combined with Winchester Hospital’s medical oncology program, ensure that patients have access to the full range of medical services for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The center has been awarded accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR) for the highest practice standards in radiation oncology.

“Our patients have access to the most advanced radiation oncology,” said Kevin Smith, president and CEO of Winchester Hospital. “It is through partnerships like these that we can continue to advance the health and care of our communities.”

Winchester Hospital’s state-of-the-art Center for Cancer Care opened in the spring of 2011. The center offers a full range of integrated, coordinated oncology services that are designed around patient needs and meet or exceed national quality standards. The Center for Cancer Care is comprised of the Dr. Richard Heidbreder Center for Radiation Oncology and Reno Center for Medical Oncology.

A new ambulatory surgery center, which opened last year, is also located at the 620 Washington Street site.

“Our partnership with Winchester Hospital enables patients to receive the most advanced therapies through cutting edge technology in their community,” said Thomas A. Shields, president of Shields Health Care Group. “We’re proud to be celebrating this milestone with Winchester Hospital.”
