Find Your Inner Strength with The Center for Healthy Living

The Center for Healthy Living at Winchester Hospital offers fitness and yoga classes for all ages and levels of experience. Yoga helps calm and focus the mind, while reducing stress and strengthening the body. Not interested in yoga? Don’t worry, we offer plenty of other programs for people of all ages to help keep you feeling fit. A complete list of activities and classes offered is listed below. Beginner Tai Chi/QiGong is an entry level class that will focus on gentle flowing movements which reduce stress, increase flexibility and balance and improve muscle strength. 

Date: Mondays, July 8 to Aug. 12

Time: 5 to 6 p.m.

Location: Family Medical Center,500 Salem St, Wilmington

Cost: $90 (6 week session)

Yoga is a traditional yoga class that includes gentle stretching, postures/poses (Asana),conditioning exercises, breathing techniques (Pranayama) and relaxation/mediation. This class is ideal for the beginner or the experienced student. Class is taught with various modifications to address all physical abilities. This class includes a longer meditation/relaxation period where various techniques are taught to manage stress and induce a relaxed state. 

Date: Tuesday, July 9 to Sept. 10

Time: 6 to 7:15 p.m.

Cost: $150 (10 classes)

Tai Chi/Qi Gong is a class that focuses on gentle flowing movements that reduce stress, increase flexibility and balance, and improve muscle strength.

Date: Mondays, July 15 to Sept. 23

Time:  6:15 to 7:45 p.m.

Location: Family Medical Center, 500 Salem St, Wilmington

Cost: $150 (10 weeksession)

Basic Life Support Initial Certification is a one-night class during which participants learn CPR and choke-saving techniques for adults, children and infants. This course is a pre-requisite for the basic life support instructor course. After successful completion of a written test and skills evaluation, participants will receive certification in these life-saving techniques.

Date: Wednesday, July 17

Time: 6 to 10 p.m.

Cost: $90

First Aid and Safety for New Parents is a one-night class designed to help new parents identify common danger areas in the home, prevent injuries, and care for injuries if they do occur.

Date: Friday, July 19

Time: 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Location: 200 Unicorn Park Drive, 1st FloorConference Room, Woburn

Cost: $40 per person or $70 per couple

Qi Gong for Health and Stress Management is a six-week course that teaches basic qi gong breathing,movement and meditation techniques that will enhance the body/mind connection,foster better joint and muscle wellness, and help to alleviate harmful stress.The techniques taught will help to stimulate the flow of body/life force energy(Qi), increase and enhance its quality, and create greater personal awareness of it. 

Date: Mondays, July 22 to Aug. 26

Time: 5 to 6 p.m.

Location: Family Medical Center, 500 Salem St., Wilmington

Cost: $90

Fitness Basics is a five-week, low-impact aerobic and muscle conditioning workout for women and men. This fitness program helps maintain muscle strength and cardiovascular health.

Date: Tuesday, July 23 to Thursday, Aug. 22

(Class meets every Tuesday and Thursday)

Time: 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays

          9:15 to10:15 a.m. on Thursdays

Location: Family Medical Center,500 Salem St.,Route 62, Wilmington

Cost: $55 (10 classes)

Infant and Child First Aid is a one-night course that focuses on choke-saving techniques and basic first aid skills. Participants will learn how to care for children or infants with fractures, burns, seizures, fever and vomiting.

Time: 6 to 10 p.m.

Flex and Stretch is a five-week class taught by a physical therapist that focuses on maintaining and/or improving flexibility, strength and balance.

Date: Monday, July 29 to Friday, Sept. 6

Cost: $60 (10 Classes)

Prenatal Yoga is a five-week yoga class that prepares your body for childbirth in gentle to moderate postures that stretch, strengthen and tone muscles. The class also focuses on breathing techniques and meditation.

Date: Tuesdays, July 30 to Aug. 27

Time: 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Location: 200 Unicorn Park Drive, 1st FloorConference Room, Woburn

Cost: $75 (5 classes)

Mommy & Me Yoga is a four-week gentle yoga class designed to help mothers regain strength and flexibility after pregnancy while bonding with their baby and connecting with other moms.

Date: Wednesdays, July 31 to Aug. 21

Time: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Location: 200 Unicorn Park Drive, 1st FloorConference Room, Woburn

Cost: $60 (4 classes)

5-Week Prepared Childbirth Series assists expectant parents in preparing for labor and birth, including third trimester changes, labor support, stages of labor and comfort measures.

Date: Wednesdays, July 31 to Aug. 28

Time: 7 to 9 p.m.
