Get Fit for the Summer at Winchester Hospital’s Center for Healthy Living

Are you looking to get ready for summer? Kick off the spring season by getting your mind and body moving! Winchester Hospital’s Center for Healthy Living offers yoga classes for all ages and levels of experience. Yoga combines flow of movement with coordination of breathing. This process calms and focuses the mind, stretches and strengthens the body, positively affects energy, and manages stress. Not interested in yoga? Don’t worry, there are plenty of other programs for people of all ages to help keep you fit. A complete list of activities and classes offered is listed below. Nursing Assistant Training is a 75 hour state-approved course where students will learn various patient care skills, including personal care and infection control. This certificate is required to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Date: March 4 to March 30 (morning, evening or Saturday classes available)

Time:   8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Monday to Friday)

5:30 to 9:30 p.m. (Monday to Thursday)

7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Saturday 3/23, 3/30)

Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Suite 207

Cost: $650

Nursing Mothers Support Group is a free support group for new moms who have questions about breastfeeding. The group meets every Wednesday.

Date: Wednesdays, March 6, 13, 20, 27

Time: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Mommy & Me Yoga is a four-week gentle yoga class designed to help mothers regain strength and flexibility after pregnancy while bonding with their baby and connecting with other moms.

Date: Wednesdays, March 6 to March 27

Time: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Keating Conference Room

Cost: $60 (four classes)

Insulin Pumpers is a free support group for diabetics who wear an insulin pump or are interested in learning about insulin pump therapy. The group meets the second Saturday of the month.

Date: Saturday, March 9

Time: 9:30 to noon

Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Keating Conference Room.

Beginner Tai Chi/Qi Gong is an entry level class that will focus on gentle flowing movements which reduce stress, increase flexibility and balance, and improve muscle strength.

Date: Mondays, March 11 to April 22

Time: 5 to 6 p.m.

Location: Winchester Hospital Family Medical Center, 500 Salem St., Wilmington

Cost: $90 (6 week session)

HOPE Group is a free support group for parents and families who have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death. The group meets the second Wednesday of the month.

Date: Wednesday, March 13

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Keating Conference Room

Building Bones is a five-week, low-impact class that focuses on muscle strengthening and stretching with the use of low weight bearing exercises. The workout is designed for men and women who want to tone muscles and maintain bone health.

Date: Wednesday, March 13 to Friday, April 12 (class meets Wednesdays and Fridays)

Time: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Keating Conference Room

Cost: $45 (10 classes)

Ageless Yoga Breathe and smile as you stretch and strengthen! Enjoy the journey of life with fortitude, flexibility, and well being. As your body ages, muscles and joints can begin to tighten which can cause discomfort, reduced mobility, stiffness and pain. This yoga class is beneficial to people at any age, but especially seniors can help regain flexibility while reducing aches. In this class you will learn modified poses for safe practice, breathing techniques and relaxation methods. It is never too late to begin yoga.

Date: Monday, March 18 to June 3

Time: 11:15 to 12:30 p.m.

Cost: $150 (per 10 week session)

Alzheimer’s Support group is designed to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings. The group meets the third Thursday of the month.

Flex and Stretch is a five-week class taught by a physical therapist that focuses on maintaining and/or improving flexibility, strength and balance.

Date: Monday, March 25 to April 29 (no class April 15)
