Relax and Rejuvenate with Fitness Classes at Winchester Hospital

Are you looking to stay busy this autumn? Kick off the fall season by getting your mind and body moving! Winchester Hospital’s Community Health Institute offers fitness programs for all ages and levels of experience. This season, the hospital is offering an introductory course in Tai Chi/Qi Gong, which will focus on gentle slowing movements which reduce stress, increase flexibility and balance, and improve muscle strength. Not interested in Tai Chi? Don’t worry, there are plenty of other programs for people of all ages to help keep you fit. A complete list of activities and classes offered is listed below. Tai Chi/Qi Gong is a 10-week fitness class that utilizes gentle flowing movements to reduce stress, increase flexibility and balance, and improve muscle strength.
Date: Mondays, Aug. 13 to Oct. 29 (no class Sep. 3 and Oct. 8, you can join at any time and pay a pro-rated fee).
Time: 6:15 to 7:45 p.m.
Location: Winchester Hospital Family Medical Center, 500 Salem St., Route 62, Wilmington
Cost: $150 (10 classes)

Nursing Mothers Support Group is a free support group for new moms who have questions about breastfeeding.
Date: Every Wednesday, Sep. 5
Time: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Flex and Stretch is a 10-week class taught by a physical therapist that focuses on maintaining and/or improving flexibility, strength and balance.
Date: Mondays and Fridays, Sep. 7 to Oct. 12 (no class Oct. 8)
Time: 10 to 11 a.m.
Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Keating Conference Room
Cost: $60 (10 Classes)

Yoga Basics is a 10-week yoga class for beginners or for those who want to return to a yoga practice. This class provides introductory postures and breathing techniques, gentle stretching and strengthening and relaxation.
Date: Saturdays, Sep. 8 to Nov. 10
Time: 9 to 10:15 a.m.
Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Keating Conference Room
Cost: $150 (10 classes)

Insulin Pumpers is a free support group for diabetics who wear an insulin pump or are interested in learning about insulin pump therapy. The group meets the second Saturday of the month.

Time: 9:30 to noon

Tai Chi/Qi Gong Introductory Course is a four-week, beginner class that will focus on gentle flowing movements which reduce stress, increase flexibility and balance, and improve muscle strength.

Ageless Yoga is a 10-week yoga class that is ideal for loosening up the muscles and joints that tighten with age and cause discomfort, reduced mobility, stiffness and pain. This class will incorporate modified yoga poses, breathing techniques and relaxation methods.
Date: Mondays, Sep. 10 to Nov. 26 (no class Oct. 8 and Nov. 2)
Time: 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Zumba is a six-week, Latin-style dance fitness class that makes you sweat without realizing it. Have fun moving to the beat and leave feeling rejuvenated. All fitness levels are welcome.
Date: Tuesdays, Sep. 11 – Oct. 16
Time: 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Cost: $75 (five classes)

Building Bones is a five-week, low-impact class that focuses on muscle strengthening and stretching with the use of low weight bearing exercises. The workout is designed for men and women who want to tone muscles and maintain bone health.

Time: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

HOPE Group is a free support group for parents and families who have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death. The group meets the second Wednesday of the month.

Nordic Walking is a five-week class that engages walking with specially designed light weight walking poles, similar to ski poles, promoting long synchronized strides and proper technique. This exercise strengthens the upper body, builds bone density, improves posture and balance, increases gait speed and much more. The program is designed for individuals at any fitness level from beginners to experts.
Date: Wednesday, Sep. 12 to Oct. 10
Time: 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Location: Horn Pond, Woburn
Cost: $40 (five classes)

Yoga is a traditional yoga 10-week class that includes gentle stretching, postures/poses, conditioning exercises, breathing, techniques and relaxation/meditation. This class is ideal for the beginner or the experienced student.
Date: Tuesdays, Sep. 18 to Nov. 20
Time: 6 to 7:15 p.m.

Fitness Basics is a five-week, low-impact aerobic and muscle conditioning workout for women and men. This fitness program helps maintain muscle strength and cardiovascular health.
Date: Every Tuesday and Thursday, Sep. 18 to Oct. 18
Time: 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays
          9:15 to 10:15 a.m. on Thursdays

Mommy & Me Yoga is a gentle yoga class designed to help mothers regain strength and flexibility after pregnancy while bonding with their baby and connecting with other moms.

Alzheimer’s Support group is designed to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings. The group meets the third Thursday of the month.

Pre-Natal Yoga is a five-week yoga class that prepares your body for childbirth in gentle to moderate postures that stretch, and strengthen and tone muscles. The class also focuses on breathing techniques and meditation.
