Winchester Hospital Offers Yoga Class to Alleviate Lower Back Pain

Do you wake up in the morning and immediately crave a massage for your lower back? Is your back stiff, sore or achy? While a massage may be nice, why not try yoga?

The Center for Healthy Living at Winchester Hospital is offering a new fitness program – yoga for chronic low back pain. Participants will be taught using Viniyoga – a therapeutically oriented style of yoga that emphasizes the use of breath in coordination with movement – while using the individual strengths and limitations of the participant.

Don’t worry, no previous yoga experience is necessary, but sign up fast because class size is limited to 10 people.

This eight-week program, which costs $140, will run from Saturday, Sept. 14 to Saturday, Nov. 9 (there will be no class on Oct. 12). The class will meet from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. in the first floor conference room at 200 Unicorn Park Drive in Woburn.

This yoga class is a treatment option for adults to help alleviate some common problems of chronic low back pain. Participants will be guided through a yoga practice with the elements of asana (postures/exercises),breath coordinated with movement and a guided resting period/deep relaxation.
