Winchester Hospital ‘One Shining Night’ Gala on Nov. 21 to Benefit Center for Cancer Care
Winchester, Mass. — More than 600 corporate sponsors and leaders from the health care, business and local community are expected to attend the ninth annual Winchester Hospital Gala, which will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 in the State Room at 60 State St. in Boston. Proceeds from the event, whose theme this year is “One Shining Night,” will benefit a comprehensive Winchester Hospital Center for Cancer Care where patients will receive the treatment and support they require in one place, conveniently located in their community.

“This is a very exciting time for the hospital and the community,” said Arlan F. Fuller Jr., MD, clinical vice president for the integration of oncology services and academic affiliations at Winchester Hospital. “Over the past 20 years, the treatment of cancer has progressively moved from the inpatient acute care hospital to the outpatient setting. Winchester Hospital’s focus on the expansion of our cancer program anticipates the future needs of the community. This Center for Cancer Care will deliver state-of-the-art clinical care with a focus on the individual needs of each patient and his or her family.”

The Winchester Hospital Gala provides critical financial support through the generosity of its sponsors and attendees and live and silent auctions. This year, auction items include: a one-week stay at a beachfront, three-bedroom, three-bathroom timeshare at Marriott’s Frenchman’s Cove in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (available from June 6-13, 2010) with airfare for up to six included; gourmet dinner for 10, including wine pairings, in a private room at Filippo Ristorante in Boston’s North End; a day shadowing a private detective with JKL Private Investigators; The Fenway Package which includes tickets for four to a Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees game with round-trip limousine service; two tickets to the NHL Winter Classic hockey game on Jan. 1 between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers; a one-week stay at a villa in Ailano, Caserta in the Campania region of Italy (available between April-June 2010 or August-October 2010); Patriots tickets; the latest iPod technology; and much more.

“We are indebted to those individuals in the community who understand the value of creating a state-of-the-art Center for Cancer Care close to home,” said Kevin Smith, president and chief executive officer of Winchester Hospital. “Year after year, we are humbled by the extraordinary show of support for this event which benefits patients battling cancer.”

The Winchester Hospital Gala’s “All Star” sponsor is Winning Farm. “Shooting Star” sponsors are A.J. Martini, Inc.; Cummings Properties; Joan and Gerald O’Neil; and Winchester Laboratory Associates. “Shining Star” sponsors are A.J. Martini, Inc.; Affiliates in Footcare, P.C.; Ann Blackham; Armstrong Ambulance; Northshore Radiological Associates; Salter Healthcare; Winchester Co-Operative Bank; Winchester Emergency Medical Associates, P.C.; Woburn Pediatrics; and Woodbriar of Wilmington/Windsor Place.

“It is our pleasure to chair this year’s Gala. We think that the setting at 60 State St. will be spectacular and that guests will be thrilled with the incredible selection of auction items that have been so generously donated to support the cause,” said Nancy and Paul Martini, chairs of the Winchester Hospital Gala. “The event will, once again, be one you don’t want to miss.”
