Dale M. Lodge Delivers Health Care Testimony at State House
Winchester, Mass. – Dale M. Lodge, president and chief executive officer of Winchester Healthcare Management, emphasized the importance of consumer choice to the state Health Care Financing Committee during a hearing on health care payment system reform on Thursday, Oct. 8.
A resident of Winchester, Lodge recently concluded his 10-year tenure as president and chief executive of Winchester Hospital. In his current role, he leads Winchester Healthcare Management, the parent organization of Winchester Hospital and other subsidiaries. He is also a former chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA), a non-profit organization that represents the state’s hospitals, health systems and related organizations through leadership in public advocacy, education and information.
In his testimony to the Health Care Financing Committee, Lodge noted that benefit plans currently offered by most health insurance providers allow patients to seek care from providers and health care facilities based on personal preference. To ensure that payment system reform is successful, however, insurance benefit design will need to support and be aligned with the role of the provider so that patients are encouraged and incentivized to access their health care within smaller, interconnected communities of quality providers.
Lodge was joined at the hearing by MHA President and CEO Lynn Nicholas; Allen L. Smith, MD of Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization; and Keith Hovan, president and CEO of Southcoast Hospitals Group.
