Winchester Hospital Sponsors Free Education Sessions for “Understanding Urinary Incontinence” in Woburn
Woburn, Mass. — An estimated 17 million Americans suffer from urinary incontinence (UI). Although the condition is especially prevalent in women between 30 and 90 years of age, many are unaware of effective treatment options because the problem is rarely discussed with physicians.
UI, which can be a temporary or chronic condition, can be brought on by factors including childbirth, age, medications, certain diseases, lifestyle or diet. The good news, however, is that steps can be taken at any stage of life to manage, treat and prevent UI.
Sujatha Rajan, MD, a fellowship-trained urogynecologist on Winchester Hospital’s medical staff, will present two free education sessions for “Understanding Urinary Incontinence” and its risk factors, diagnosis and treatment options. A boxed lunch will be served on Thursday, Oct. 1, 12 to 1 p.m., at the Woburn Senior Center, 144 School St. in Woburn. Light refreshments will be available on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 6 to 7 p.m., at 800 West Cummings Park, Suite 4750 in Woburn.
“Many women experience bladder control issues such as an overactive bladder, incontinence and prolapse,” said Sujatha Rajan, MD, a fellowship-trained urogynecologist at Winchester Hospital “Instead of suffering in silence, women should seek treatment from an urogynecologist who can offer medical treatments as well as minimally invasive surgical options.”
To register for the free events, please call Marylou Hardy at (781) 756-4796 by Sept. 30.
