Winchester Hospital’s Community Health Institute Offers Ways to Relax, Gain Peace of Mind this July

Winchester, Mass. – Take some time to reduce stress this summer and enroll in one of Winchester Hospital’s Community Health Institute classes. Sign up for a calming yoga class or gain peace of mind by enrolling in a lifesaving CPR class. Parents can help their teenagers earn that first job by enrolling them in the safe babysitting course. Yoga is a 10-week moderate to strong-level yoga class that includes postures with longer holds, Pranayama (breathing) techniques, yoga philosophy, chanting and meditation.

Date: Tuesday, June 30 to Tuesday, Sept. 1

Time: 6 to 7:15 p.m.

Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Keating Conference Room

Cost: $150

 

Nursing Mother’s Group is a free support group for new moms who have questions about breastfeeding and motherhood.

Date: Meets every Wednesday (July 1, July 8, July 15, July 22, July 29)

Time: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (initial certification) is a one-night class during which participants will learn CPR and choke-saving techniques for adults, children and infants. This course is a pre-requisite for the basic life support instructor course. After successful completion of a written test and skills evaluation, participants will receive certification in these life-saving techniques.

Date: Monday, July 6 also offered on Thursday, July 23
Time: 6 to 10 p.m.

Cost: $90

 

Prenatal Yoga is a nine-week class that prepares the body for childbirth with gentle to moderate yoga postures that stretch, strengthen and tone muscles. The class also focuses on breathing techniques and meditation.

Date: Tuesdays, July 7 to Sept. 1

Time: 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Keating Conference Room

Cost: $135 (nine weeks)

 

HOPE Group is a free support group for parents and families who have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death. The group meets the second Wednesday of the month.

Date: Wednesday, July 8

Time: 7 to 9 p.m.

CPR for Family and Friends is a one-night non-certification class designed to teach CPR and choke-saving skills.

Date: Friday, July 10

Time: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Cost: $45

 

Yoga Basics is a six-week beginner level yoga class that focuses on introductory postures and breathing techniques, gentle stretching and strengthening, and relaxation.

Dates: Saturdays from July 11 to August 15

Time: 9 to 10:15 a.m.

Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Keating Conference Room

Cost: $90 (six classes)

 

Insulin Pumpers is a free support group for diabetics who wear an insulin pump or are interested in learning about insulin pump therapy. The group meets the second and fourth Saturday of the month.

Date: Saturday, July 11 and Saturday, July 25

Time: 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Tai Chi/Qi gong is a seven-week fitness class that utilizes gentle flowing movements to reduce stress, increase flexibility and balance, and improve muscle strength. There will be two classes that begin in July – one held on Mondays and another on Thursdays. Participants can attend one or the other, or both.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (recertification) is a one-night class designed for healthcare providers seeking recertification in CPR and choke-saving techniques.

Date: Wednesday, July 15

Time: 6 to 10 p.m.

Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Keating Conference Room

Cost: $65

 

Safe Babysitting is a one-day program designed to teach the fundamentals of safety and child care. The course will cover how to appropriately handle an emergency, choke-saving procedures and telephone etiquette.

Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: $65

 

First Aid and Safety for New Parents is a one-night class designed to help new parents identify common danger areas in the home, prevent injuries and care for injuries if they do occur.

Date: Friday, July 17

Time: 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Keating Conference Room

Cost: $40 per person, $70 per couple

 

Heartsaver CPR + AED is a one-night course that focuses on rescue and choke-saving skills for adults, children and infants. This course also provides instruction on automated external defibrillation. After successful completion of a skills evaluation, participants will receive certification in these life-saving techniques.

Date: Monday, July 20 also offered on Thursday, July 30

Time: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Cost: $65

 

Infant and Child First Aid is a one-night course that focuses on choke-saving techniques and basic first aid skills. Participants will learn how to care children or infants with fractures, burns, seizures, fever and vomiting.

Mommy & Me Yoga is a five-week gentle yoga class designed to help mothers regain strength and flexibility after pregnancy while bonding with their baby and connecting with other moms.

Date: Monday, July 27 to Monday, August 24

Time: 8:50 to 9:50 a.m.
