Michael J. Smith, MD Joins Medical Staff at Winchester Hospital
Winchester, Mass. – Michael J. Smith, MD has joined the medical staff at Winchester Hospital. A resident of Boston, he is actively involved in providing new therapies in radiation oncology at the Winchester Hospital Radiation Oncology Center in Winchester, South Suburban Oncology Center in Quincy and Shields Radiation Oncology Center in Mansfield.
 
The Winchester Hospital Radiation Oncology Center provides state-of-the-art radiation treatment to patients through a partnership with Shields Health Care Group. The center features four-dimensional CT simulation, image-guided radiation technology, respiratory gating and electronic brachytherapy – all highly advanced forms of cancer treatment offered in very few centers in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. These technologies, combined with Winchester Hospital’s medical oncology (chemotherapy) program, ensure that patients have access to the full range of medical services for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The Winchester Hospital Radiation Oncology Center has been awarded accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR) for the highest practice standards in radiation oncology.
 
Dr. Smith, who is board certified in radiation oncology, received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and his bachelor’s degree from Tufts University in Medford. He completed a residency in radiation oncology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, N.Y., where he was chief resident. He also completed an elective in pediatric radiation oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, N.Y., and an internship in pediatrics at the David Grant USAF Medical Center in Fairfield, Calif.
 
Dr. Smith served in the U.S. Air Force, including a tour as an aeromedical evacuation flight surgeon at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. He attained a rank of captain/major-select.
