Winchester Hospital Recognized for Outstanding Care by Harvard Pilgrim Health Care
Winchester, Mass. — Winchester Hospital has been named to the 2009 Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Hospital Honor Roll, which recognizes adult, acute care hospitals whose performance was among the top 25 percent of those measured nationally.
Hospitals were evaluated according to a set of composite clinical quality, patient safety and patient experience measures, as reported by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on Hospital Compare and Leapfrog patient safety measures. Harvard Pilgrim Health Care’s network includes more than 150 of the area’s most respected community, teaching and specialty hospitals.
Earlier this month, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care awarded “Honor Roll with Distinction” status to the adult and pediatric primary care physicians of the Highland Healthcare Associates Independent Physicians Association (IPA), a physician organization representing 340 Winchester Hospital-affiliated physicians. The Highland Healthcare Associates IPA was one of just eight out of a total of 130 Local Care Units to achieve such outstanding performance in the 2009 review. The IPA and Winchester Hospital hold a contract with HPHC.
“We are proud to achieve this important distinction from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care,” said Kathy Schuler, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer of Winchester Hospital. “This recognition reaffirms the excellent quality of care that our patients in the Winchester Hospital service area have come to expect.”
