Winchester Hospital’s Community Health Institute Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week
Winchester, Mass. – Twenty-six mothers and their children recently attended a celebration of World Breastfeeding Week hosted by Winchester Hospital’s Community Health Institute Outpatient Lactation Center. World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated in 120 countries.
The Outpatient Lactation Center helps women to achieve their breastfeeding goals through support and education, regardless of where they gave birth. International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC), who are registered nurses, assist breastfeeding mothers and babies (both inpatient and outpatient) with general support and issues including painful breastfeeding, a baby’s slow weight gain and/or inadequate diaper output. Guidance is provided in accordance with the World Health Organization and American Academy of Pediatrics, which advise that breast milk is the ideal infant nutrition.
The Outpatient Lactation Center’s Lactation Boutique carries a variety of breastfeeding supplies. Products include breast pumps for rental and purchase, custom fit nursing bras, breastfeeding pillows and nursing covers. The boutique is open Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., or by appointment Monday through Friday.
The center also offers a Nursing Mothers Group that is open to all local breastfeeding mothers. The group meets on Wednesdays from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the Keating Conference Room on the first floor of Baldwin Park I, 12 Alfred St. in Woburn.
