Dale Lodge, President and CEO of Winchester Hospital, Receives Friend of Nursing Award
Winchester, Mass. – Dale Lodge, president and chief executive officer of Winchester Hospital, was recently presented with the Winchester Hospital Friend of Nursing Award.
The honor is given annually to an individual or group that consistently demonstrates respect for the role of nurses in patient care, promotes positive patient outcomes in collaboration with nursing, and demonstrates a positive impact on the nursing profession, department, or staff.
Since joining Winchester Hospital in December 1999, Lodge has demonstrated a leadership style rooted in shared decision making. During his tenure, Winchester Hospital became the first community hospital in Massachusetts to earn Magnet Recognition – the highest honor for excellence in nursing – from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in 2003. Winchester Hospital was re-designated with this prestigious recognition in 2008.
Magnet designation, so named because these hospitals attract and retain the best nursing professionals, has been earned by only 289 health care organizations – or approximately 5 percent – in the U.S., plus one each in Australia and New Zealand. The ANCC’s Magnet Recognition Program promotes quality in a setting that supports professional practice; identifies excellence in the delivery of nursing services to patients and residents; and disseminates best practices in nursing services.
“As our CEO, Dale captures the very essence of the Winchester Hospital Friend of Nursing Award,” said Kathy Schuler, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at Winchester Hospital. “Whether it is advocating for nurses to have control over unit staffing, ensuring that nursing is represented at all levels of decision making in the organization, or supporting us 100 percent toward our goal achievement, the nursing staff has never had a better friend than Dale Lodge.”
