Wayne S. Saltsman, MD, PhD Named Top Doctor by Boston Magazine: VP of Geriatric Services Development Recognized by Peers Statewide

Winchester, Mass. – Wayne S. Saltsman, MD, PhD has been named a Top Doctor in Geriatric Medicine by Boston Magazine. The magazine recognizes top doctors in 55 specialties with physicians selected by their peers through an anonymous statewide survey process. Dr. Saltsman is one of only four geriatricians throughout Massachusetts to receive this honor.
 
Dr. Saltsman is vice president of geriatric services developmentat Winchester Hospital. One of fewer than 80 geriatricians in Massachusetts, he provides medical oversight of patients in the hospital, rehabilitation facilities and nursing homes, as well as outpatient consultations with elders and their families.
 
“I want to help relieve the stress and strain of aging for as many elders and their families as possible,” said Dr. Saltsman, who supports a seamless continuum of care by working hand-in-hand with elders’ primary care physicians, hospitalists and nursing home physicians. “Practicing geriatric medicine through a community hospital is the ultimate way to advocate for local elders. That’s what it’s all about for me.”
 
Dr. Saltsman received his medical degree and doctorate in pathology from Boston University School of Medicine. He earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of California at San Diego’s Revelle College. Dr. Saltsman completed a clinical fellowship in geriatric medicine at Harvard Medical School.
 
Board certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine, he is a certified medical director and assistant professor of medicine at Tufts Medical School. For several years, Dr. Saltsman served as chairman of the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Lahey Clinic. He is a member of the American Geriatrics Society and the Massachusetts Geriatrics Society.
 
A resident of Burlington, Dr. Saltsman hosts the monthly show “Your Senior Moment™” via cable access television and lectures regularly as an advocate for elder health and wellness. He has been a board member of the Massachusetts Geriatric Society, is an elected member of the Burlington Board of Health and has served on the Burlington Council on Aging.
