Winchester Hospital Named One of FORTUNE’s “100 Best Companies to Work For”
Winchester, Mass. – Winchester Hospital was named today to FORTUNE’s “100 Best Companies to Work For.” Winchester Hospital, the only Massachusetts hospital included in the 13th annual listing, is ranked No. 99.
This is the third recent recognition honoring Winchester Hospital as an outstanding employer. In June 2009, Winchester Hospital was named as the No. 1 Best Place to Work in Massachusetts by Boston Business Journal, becoming the first large company to win the coveted top spot two years in a row, and one of only four companies to be recognized all seven years of the program’s existence. In November 2009, the Boston Globe named Winchester Hospital as No. 2 on the Globe 100’s Top Places to Work ’09.Winchester Hospital had earned the Boston Globe’s top ranking in the debut listing of top employers in Massachusetts in 2008.
This year, 343 companies participated in FORTUNE’s survey. Any company that is at least seven years old with more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible.
“We’re honored to receive this distinguished recognition,” said Kevin Smith, president and chief executive officer of Winchester Hospital. “This award belongs to every one of the employees, physicians and volunteers who work here each day. I am so thankful to be part of this incredible team that is committed to fostering an outstanding work environment in which our patients receive high-quality care and superior service.”
“The most important considerations for this year’s list were hiring and the ways in which companies are helping their employees weather the recession,” said Hank Gilman, deputy managing editor of FORTUNE.
In selecting the 100 Best Companies, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Two-thirds of a company’s score is based on the results of the Institute’s Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about the management’s credibility, job satisfaction and camaraderie. The remaining third of the scoring is based on the company’s responses to the Institute’s Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring, communication and diversity.
The full list of FORTUNE’s 100 Best Companies to Work For and related stories will appear in the Feb. 8 issue of FORTUNE, which will be available on newsstands on Monday, Jan. 25 and is currently online at fortune.com/bestcompanies.
