Winchester Hospital’s Community Health Institute Offers Two Zumba Classes in April

Winchester, Mass. – Winchester Hospital’s Community Health Institute is introducing two Zumba classes in April. With two class opportunities, there’s no reason not to dance your way to fitness this spring. If Zumba is not your style, then try out Fitness Basics or Building Bones as a way to build muscle and increase cardiovascular health. Find a complete class listing below. CPR for Family and Friends is a one-night non-certification class designed to teach CPR and choke-saving skills.
Date: Friday, April 2
Time: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Location: 12 Alfred St., Woburn: Baldwin Park I, Keating Conference Room
Cost: $45
 
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (initial certification) is a one-night class during which participants will learn CPR and choke-saving techniques for adults, children and infants. This course is a pre-requisite for the basic life support instructor course. After successful completion of a written test and skills evaluation, participants will receive certification in these life-saving techniques.

Fitness Basics is a five-week, low-impact aerobic and muscle conditioning workout for women and men. This fitness program helps maintain muscle strength and cardiovascular health.
Date: Tuesday, April 6 to Thursday, May 6 (class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays)
Time: 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays
          9:15 to 10:15 a.m. on Thursdays

Cost: $55 (10 classes)
 
Building Bones is a five-week, low-impact class that focuses on muscle strengthening and stretching with the use of low weight bearing exercises. The workout is designed for men and women who want to tone muscles and maintain bone health.
Date: Wednesday, April 7 to Friday, May 7 (class meets Wednesdays and Fridays)
Time: 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Cost: $45 (10 classes)
 
Prostate Cancer Support Group is a free support group for men with prostate cancer and their families. This group meets the first Wednesday of the month.

Nursing Mother’s Group is a free support group for new moms who have questions about breastfeeding and motherhood.
Date: Meets every Wednesday (April 7, 14, 21, 28)

Day to Day with Diabetes for Adults is a free support group for those who are living with diabetes, their family and friends. The group meets the second Thursday of the month.

Insulin Pumpers is a free support group for diabetics who wear an insulin pump or are interested in learning about insulin pump therapy. The group meets the second Saturday of the month.

Hypnotherapy Certification Program consists of 100 hours of independent and classroom study. The program includes an introduction to hypnosis and child birthing, medical and dental applications for hypnosis, pain management, the elimination of phobias and many other applications. This program is approved for continuing education units (CEUs) for social workers and contact hours for nurses. Graduates may join the American Board of Hypnotherapy.
Dates: Weekend classes on April 10-11 AND May 8-9 (must commit to both)

HOPE Group is a free support group for parents and families who have experienced a miscarriage, stillbirth or neonatal death. The group meets the second Wednesday of the month.

Infant and Child First Aid is a one-night course that focuses on choke-saving techniques and basic first aid skills. Participants will learn how to care children or infants with fractures, burns, seizures, fever and vomiting.

Zumba is a six-week Latin-style dance fitness class that makes you sweat without even realizing it. Have fun moving to the beat and leave feeling rejuvenated. All fitness levels are welcome. There will be two classes held on Wednesday nights – see the two time slots below.

First Aid and Safety for New Parents is a one-night class designed to help new parents identify common danger areas in the home, prevent injuries and care for injuries if they do occur.

Cost: $40 per person, $70 per couple
 
Heartsaver CPR + AED is a one-night course that focuses on rescue and choke-saving skills for adults, children and infants. This course also provides instruction on automated external defibrillation. After successful completion of a skills evaluation, participants will receive certification in these life-saving techniques.
