For more than a century, Winchester Hospital has been providing award-winning care. We are honored to be consistently recognized with designations from outside accrediting organizations and awards recognizing us as a best place to work. We also take great pride in our staff and their accomplishments inside and outside Winchester Hospital. Here are some recent national and local accolades received for our high-quality care and nursing excellence, and as a top employer. 

  • Thomson Reuters 100 Top Hospitals 2011 – Winchester Hospital was recognized as one of the top acute-care hospitals in the nation by Thomson Reuters when it received a 100 Top Hospitals award for providing safe, effective and patient-centered care.

  • HealthGrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award 2012 – Winchester Hospital achieved for the fifth year in a row the HealthGrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award™ from HealthGrades®, the leading independent health care ratings organization, which recognizes hospitals performing in the top 10% nationally.

  • Boston Business Journal Best Places to Work 2012 – Winchester Hospital continues to earn recognition as a best place to work based on employee feedback from the Boston Business Journal. It is the only hospital to appear on the list every year since the inception of the award in 2002.

  • The Boston Globe 100 Top Places to Work 2011 – Winchester Hospital has been recognized as a top place to work by the Boston Globe based on employee opinions about topics like company direction, work conditions, managers and benefits. It has been on the list since the start of the award in 2008 when it earned the No. 1 rank.

  • HealthGrades Patient Safety Excellence Award 2011 – Winchester Hospital achieved the 2011 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ from HealthGrades®, the leading independent health care ratings organization, which recognizes hospitals performing in the top 5% nationally.

  • American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Recognition – Magnet® recognition is an honor bestowed on fewer than 7% of the nation’s hospitals. Of approximately 390 hospitals in the United States and abroad that have earned this recognition, only 8 are in Massachusetts. Winchester Hospital was the first community hospital in Massachusetts to achieve Magnet recognition.

  • The Joint Commission National Quality Approval – Winchester Hospital received accreditation from The Joint Commission and was awarded a Gold Seal of Approval. Joint Commission certification is a hallmark of excellence in the health care industry, and the Gold Seal is the Commission’s most prestigious award.


State-of-the-Art Cancer Care

Our Center for Cancer at 620 Washington Street in Winchester offers a full range of coordinated cancer treatment services, together in one building, with an onsite nurse navigator to offer help and guidance.

Breast Care Center

Winchester Hospital's Breast Care Center is fully accredited as an ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, offering digital mammography, breast biopsies and on-site surgeons, radiologists and oncologists.
