Yoga

Stretching and Strengthening

Winchester Hospital offers yoga as part of our integrative therapies.

Yoga provides gentle, moderate flow of movement in coordination with the breath. This process calms and focuses the mind, stretches and strengthens the body, positively affects energy and manages stress.

Here are the various yoga programs we offer:

  • Yoga: By connecting with one's inner wisdom, yoga reduces mind/body tension, physical and emotional fatigue, lessens pain and increases range of motion. Yoga helps ease discomfort, giving you more energy and calming your mind. Yoga empowers you to accept, love and motivate yourself to regain your energy.

  • Yoga Basics: Gentle level for beginners or for those who want to return to a yoga practice. Enjoy the harmonizing benefits of yoga with introductory postures and breathing techniques, gentle stretching, and strengthening and relaxation.

  • Prenatal Yoga: Prepare your body during pregnancy for childbirth with gentle postures that stretch and tone muscles, use breathing techniques for focus and meditation to connect with one's inner self and center of intuition.

  • Ageless Yoga: You can begin yoga at any stage of life. As the body ages, muscles and joints begin to tighten. This can cause discomfort, reduce mobility and cause anxiety about one's physical well-being. You may feel stiff, inflexible, achy and unbalanced. Yoga can help you regain your flexibility and balance while reducing your aches and pains.

  • Mommy and Me Yoga: This class provides an opportunity for mothers to regain strength and flexibility, bond with their baby and connect with other moms. The tone of the class is gentle to accommodate the recent body changes from pregnancy. Mothers are welcome to take a break to feed their child at any time during the class. Moms should wait four to six weeks after their child’s birth before attending the class. If the baby was delivered by caesarian section, a doctor’s approval is needed before attending this class. No previous yoga experience is necessary.

Yoga classes are offered weekly. Prices vary due to the length of the sessions and include $150 for a 10-week session and $75 for 5-week session. Mommy and Me is $60 for a 4-week session.

Yoga classes are held in the first floor conference room at the Winchester Hospital Outpatient Center at Unicorn Park, 200 Unicorn Park Drive, Suite 401 Woburn and at the Family Medical Center, 500 Salem St., Wilmington.
