Employee Works at Winchester for 50 Years

Winchester Hospital Employee Honored for 50 Years of Service

Fifty years ago, Tony Vasconcellos, started looking for a job to help take care of his mother. And on Oct. 9, 1961, he joined Winchester Hospital’s laundry and linen department.

On Thursday, May 10, Winchester Hospital hosted its 58th annual Service Awards dinner as over 400 award recipients were recognized for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 50 years of service at Winchester Hospital and off-site locations.

And for the first time in its 100-year history, Winchester Hospital recognized an employee for 50 years of service to the hospital.

Tony has worked at Winchester for half the hospital’s life.

“I would say that he is definitely a loyal employee,” said Lauren Reardon, Director of Guest Services and Food and Nutrition.

Vasconcellos worked in the department transporting bed linens, blankets, towels and patient gowns wherever they were needed. In his 50 years of work, it’s estimated that he has processed over 70 million pounds of laundry.

He is also one of the hospital’s most committed employees. In the last two decades, Vasconcellos has only called out sick two times.

“Tony’s commitment to our patients and to the hospital is evident,” said Reardon. “I can’t thank him enough for all of his hard work and dedication.”
