Winchester Hospital Ranked Most Affordable in Massachusetts

The personal finance data website NerdWallet has ranked Winchester Hospital the most affordable hospital in Massachusetts.

NerdWallet built its “Best Hospitals” website tool in order to help patients investigate the cost of hospital care in their local areas. Using this data, the site analyzed the 100 most common treatments at the 50 largest hospitals in Massachusetts to find the top 10 most affordable hospitals. The tool recently won recognition from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Hospital Price Transparency Challenge, which acknowledges tools that help consumers make better decisions through increased transparency.

“As Massachusetts residents become more aware of health costs and the discrepancies that exist within them, shopping around for better quality, lower cost care will become more common,” according NerdWallet.com.

The site ranked hospitals based on costs to treat Medicare patients, scores from patient satisfaction surveys administered by the federal government and other indicators identified in the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospital’s publication. According to NewWallet, Winchester Hospital offers the most affordable treatments in the state for congestive heart failure, anemia, asthma and other services with a high patient satisfaction rate of 82 percent.

“Health care costs continue to rise nationally and for many families it has become the largest family expense,” said Kevin Smith, president and CEO at Winchester Hospital. “As a community hospital, it is our mission to care for members of our community by providing the most advanced care possible at a price they can afford.
