Winchester Hospital Welcomes Its First Baby of the New Year

Winchester, MA (January 2, 2015) – It was nearly 24 hours of labor for Beth Blazonis, so when she and her husband Patrick Kelley welcomed the family’s sixth child into the world the name Talan Richard Kelley seemed to be fitting.

During labor, Talan had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.

“We named him Talan because it’s an eagle’s claw, which references freedom and strength,” said Patrick Kelley. “The name seemed to be very fitting for him. And we named him Richard after my brother who passed away last year from ALS.”

Talan was born weighing 8 pounds, 5 ounces and 21 inches at 12:38 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1.

“He struggled a little bit,” said Beth Blazonis, “but he’s healthy. He’s a little blue, a little bruised, but he’s all good. He’s a fighter.”

The new parents expressed their gratitude to Winchester Hospital and the entire staff.

“The staff was absolutely amazing,” said Georgetown resident Patrick Kelley. “Talan was born and there was a dire moment or two. It was scary, but the staff was incredible, just incredible.”
