Cummings Grant

Winchester Hospital Receives Grant from Cummings Foundation

Winchester Hospital was awarded a grant of $250,000 from Cummings Foundation, Inc. Cummings

“We are very grateful to Cummings Foundation for this generous gift and their continued commitment to Winchester Hospital and our patients," said Maribeth Canning, vice president of the Winchester Hospital Foundation. "This grant will allow us the opportunity to continue to provide our communities with high quality care."

Winchester Hospital will apply the majority of the funds to purchase minimally invasive operative and training equipment for gynecologic surgeons, and to support key initiatives and programs.

Winchester Hospital was recently invited to Cummings Properties in Woburn to receive its award letter and grant check from Cummings Properties President and CEO Dennis Clarke.

Clarke, a Winchester resident and chair of Winchester Hospital's Business Partners program, said, “For decades, Winchester Hospital has provided highly skilled and compassionate care to the Cumming organization’s staff and clients as well as their families. We are so pleased to recognize and support its excellent service to the community through a major grant.”

The state-of-the-art medical equipment will ensure the best possible outcomes for patients and advance activities now underway toward the creation of a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery.

Under the leadership of Arlan Fuller, MD, clinical vice president for oncology services integration and academic affiliations, and Glen Dixon, MD, Winchester Hospital is a regional leader in providing the most advanced care for gynecologic conditions. It is also the first community hospital in Massachusetts to offer minimally invasive gynecologic procedures.

In addition to providing funding for operating equipment, the grant will benefit Winchester Hospital's genetic cancer testing and counseling, The McDonough Fund, which supports nursing education and scholarships, and the Business Partners Program, which encourages local businesses and vendors to charitably support the Hospital.

“Thanks to the generous support of Cummings Foundation, we will continue to provide the best possible care to the nearly 400,000 area residents we serve," said Kevin Smith, CEO of Winchester Hospital. "On behalf of Winchester Hospital and our patients, I extend my sincere appreciation to Cummings Foundation."
