Cummings Foundation Supports Hospital

Winchester Hospital Receives Grant from Cummings Foundation

Winchester Hospital was awarded a grant of $100,000 from OneWorld Boston, Inc., the new grant-making affiliate of Cummings Foundation.

“We are honored that Cummings Foundation has given us this generous grant,” said Maribeth Canning, vice president of the Winchester Hospital Foundation. “This grant will help fund several Winchester Hospital programs that ensure high quality health care for the communities we serve.”

Winchester Hospital will apply the funds to Our 2nd Century Campaign, a major expansion project that includes construction of a new cancer center, which opened last year, and ambulatory surgery center, which will open this summer. Both facilities are located at 620 Washington St. in Winchester.

Winchester Hospital was recently invited to Cummings Properties in Woburn to receive their award letter and grant check from Cummings Properties President and CEO Dennis Clarke.

Clarke, a Winchester resident, said, “We feel strongly that the Foundation should be committed to the areas in which Cummings Properties operates and most of our employees live.”

In addition to providing funding for the cancer and ambulatory surgery centers, the grant will benefit The McDonough Fund, which supports nursing education and scholarships, and the Business Partners Program, which encourages local businesses and vendors to charitably support the Hospital.

The Outpatient Surgery Center will enable physicians to integrate care within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment. This integrated surgical suite is equipped to handle a full spectrum of outpatient procedures, including traditional surgeries and the latest minimally invasive modalities that reduce recovery time.

The grant will help fund patient cancer care at Winchester Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care. The cancer center offers a full range of integrated, coordinated oncology services, designed around patient needs, which meet or exceed national quality standards.

“Our mission is To Care. To Heal. To Excel. In Service to Our Community., and this generous support helps us to achieve that for the nearly 400,000 area residents we serve, said Kevin Smith, president and CEO of Winchester Hospital. “On behalf of Winchester Hospital and our patients, I extend my sincere appreciation to Cummings Foundation.”
