Childbirth Classes

Having a baby is one of life’s special moments, and knowing what to expect can make the experience even more wonderful.

 

Winchester Hospital offers a variety of classes on prepared childbirth. Register online for any of our classes or call Winchester Hospital’s Center for Healthy Living at 781-756-4700 for more information.

For reimbursement of prenatal education fees, please check with your health insurance company. A receipt/letter of confirmation will be forwarded upon request.

Childbirth

Childbirth Classes

These classes are designed to meet the needs of expectant parents. The focus is on labor processes, including relaxation and breathing techniques, stages of labor and comfort measures.

  • All-day childbirth class: Classes are held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All classes include a tour of the maternity unit. $190
  • Prepared childbirth series: Meets in the evening, once a week in a series format.  $160

Hypnotherapy and Childbirth Session

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness that expecting mothers, and their partners, can use to help reduce fear and tension.  The session will teach how self-hypnosis works and how to utilize it in the weeks leading up to the due date and during the labor and delivery process.  This tool can be used by both partners to stay calm and focused on positive imagery.  You will receive an audio recording to practice before your delivery.  $85

Breastfeeding

Prenatal Breastfeeding Class

Provides education, information and support for women who are considering breastfeeding.  The class is taught by registered nurses who are also International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC). $60/couple (*If you are delivering at Winchester Hospital, this class is now being offered at no charge due to a generous donation. Please call 781-756-4700 for information.)

Outpatient Lactation Center

Our Outpatient Lactation Center, located in the Center for Healthy Living, is open to all prospective and new mothers in our community. Our board-certified (IBCLC) lactation consultant, who is also a registered nurse, is available for individual consultations.  Insurance is accepted for these office visits.  The Center also runs the Lactation Boutique, which carries quality breastfeeding products and supplies at a reasonable price. Nursing Mother Support Group

Breastfeeding mothers and their babies gather each week with a certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) who is also a registered nurse to ask general breastfeeding questions, meet other breastfeeding mothers, and gain breastfeeding support and information from each other. The group is free to all participants and meets every Wednesday from 2 to 3:30 p.m in the first floor Conference Rooms (A&B) at 200 Unicorn Park Drive, Woburn.

Newborn Pacifier Use

The American Academy of Pediatrics says pacifier use if best only after breastfeeding is well established and should be avoided during initiation of breastfeeding. If you want your newborn to have a pacifier, you may bring the pacifier with you to the hospital.

Baby Care and Safety

Care of the Newborn Class

Teaches parenting skills necessary to comfortably care for your new baby. Topics include infant behavior, needs, safety, diapering, bathing and feeding. $60/couple

Infant and Child First Aid

A one-night certification course that focuses on choke-saving techniques and basic first aid skills for infants and children. Participants will learn how to care for children or infants with fractures, burns, seizures, fever and vomiting. $65/person

CPR for Family and Friends

Learn rescue skills in CPR and choke-saving for infants, children and adults. This class is suitable for new parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends. $45/person
