Winchester Hospital’s Dr. Richard Heidbreder Center for Radiation Oncology offers the latest in radiation therapy treatments for many types of cancer. About Dr. Heidbreder

Richard Heidbreder, MD, joined Winchester Hospital's medical staff in 1985. He founded our radiation oncology program in 2006. Under his guidance, the center became a premier facility offering state-of-the-art treatment for people with cancer throughout the region.

Dr. Heidbeder was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease). He retired in November 2009 and passed away two years later. Winchester Laboratory Associates — the physician group that provides laboratory and pathology services at Winchester Hospital — and Strata Pathology Services, Inc. — the group that provides pathology services to area medical providers — made a $2 million donation to the hospital to name the radiation oncology center in honor of Dr. Heidbreder.
